About 3YOURMIND

Based in Berlin and with offices Paris and Detroit, 3YOURMIND is a dynamic company that provides

manufacturing companies with software to optimize their workflows and transition into Additive

Manufacturing (industrial 3D printing).

We work with 50+ employees across all offices and are looking for self-driven and creative people to join a company that is passionate about delivering customer-focused innovative products.

We are looking for self-driven and creative people who want to join a company that is all about

delivering customer-focused innovative products and values a healthy team-spirited work

environment.

What will be your main responsibilities?

You will be responsible for operating software on kubernetes, via AWS EKS, and supporting on-premise deployments, (also using k8s).

Automation is a big part of the role and you can expect to work with plenty of Terraform.

You’ll help debug and resolve issues in our platform, bringing platform engineering and technical deep-dive skills to the team. We try to keep the operational time low.

You will collaborate with developers to create artefacts that can be easily deployed.

What should you bring to the table?

You have 👉

  • Hands-on experience with kubernetes. This is the major portion of the work you’ll be doing, whether you’re driving kubectl in your terminal, terraforming kubernetes resources, or debugging CI runners that are also running inside a kubernetes cluster, so it’s important that you have this experience.
  • Knowledge about how to work with Helm, as that’s the tool we currently use to template and distribute our software. If you’re already good with kubernetes yaml, it’s not much extra to pick up.
  • Either hands-on experience with terraform, or a willingness to learn it, alongside experience with another IaC tool. All our infrastructure is managed by terraform, and we don’t see signs of slowing down with trying to terraform even more things in the future.
  • Experience debugging technical issues, ideally production grade/customer-facing issues. We understand that not everyone gets that opportunity, so tell us about a weird bug that you once vanquished.
  • Some programming experience. While the SRE team primarily writes software in Go, we’re flexible in the tools we use to solve problems. Our software stack is predominantly Python/Django, with a VueJS frontend, a single Java/SpringBoot service, and two in C++. By the time you join we’ll have deployed our first (very small) Go service, that reports more detailed version information using the kubernetes API.

You might have 👉

  • Hands-on experience with building Windows applications. We have a single piece of software that needs to run on Windows for some customers, so if you were familiar with getting things working nicely with PowerShell and Windows VMs, that would be cool.
  • Knowledge and interest in making our networking set-up better. This could be from a security standpoint, from an incident blast radius standpoint, or generally planning and executing a networking strategy. We have a working networking setup, although we would love for someone to be able to take it to the next level.
  • An interest in moving beyond shell scripts, perhaps with Go, or Rust, to bring operational tooling into the 21st century. We understand that there will always be a need for shell scripts in certain situations, although we also recognise that there are a substantial number of ways shell scripts can go wrong, and for operations, that can be difficult to recover from.
  • A wish for their code to be open source. We would like to produce more open source software than we currently do. With the right motivation and planning for certain projects to become OSS, I’m sure we can do more.
  • A desire to research and present topics in our weekly tech talks. We have a broad spectrum of previous talk topics, from lean as an engineering methodology, through to how our 3d part analyser fixes problems in meshes, so if you have interest in learning more about something and presenting it, we’ve got a spot for you.
  • Linux administration experience. We run almost our entire stack within AWS, and EKS more specifically, however we still occasionally have reason to turn to bare EC2 machines when required. We tend toward using terraform (utilising cloud-init internally) to manage the instance once it has booted, instead of splitting across terraform for the core infrastructure, then a configuration management tool like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef once the instance has booted. This leads to very little “human driven” systems administration. If you have a passion to improve that process, we’d love to hear about it.
